The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) is inviting suitably qualified applicants to apply for temporary positions as Examination Assistants and Quality Assurers for the 2025 examination cycle. These positions play a critical role in ensuring the credibility, efficiency, and smooth running of the examination and marking process across various districts and marking centres.

  1. Examination Assistants (x294)
    Examination Assistants are required to support the administration of exams in the following districts:
  • HO25 – Head Office
  • GN25 – Gauteng North
  • GW25 – Gauteng West
  • TN25 – Tshwane North
  • TS25 – Tshwane South
  • GE25 – Gauteng East
  • EN25 – Ekurhuleni North
  • SE25 – Sedibeng East
  • SW25 – Sedibeng West
  • JE25 – Johannesburg East
  • JN25 – Johannesburg North
  • JS25 – Johannesburg South
  • JC25 – Johannesburg Central
  • JW25 – Johannesburg West
  • TW25 – Tshwane West
  • ES25 – Ekurhuleni South

  1. Quality Assurers (x951)
    Quality Assurers will be placed at different marking centres across the province. Some of the key centres include:

Package

Successful applicants will be remunerated according to the Personnel Administrative Measures (PAM) rates applicable to temporary examination-related work.


Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following:

  • A Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate / National Senior Certificate Vocational.
  • Must be registered as a tertiary student, or an unemployed graduate with one or more tertiary qualifications.
  • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy at Grade 12 level is essential.
  • Numerical skills are a must; Accounting at Grade 12 or tertiary level will be an advantage.
  • Second-year tertiary students and above will receive preference.
  • Previous experience as an Examination Assistant or Quality Assurer will be advantageous.
  • Applicants must have no criminal record and must not be writing the 2025 National Senior Certificate / Senior Certificate / AET examinations.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the secure administration of examination processes.
  • Manage and verify scripts at district offices or marking centres.
  • Support examiners, markers, and quality assurance teams in ensuring accuracy.
  • Work under strict deadlines to meet provincial and national timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and integrity standards of examination processes.


Important Notes

  • Persons who have taken the Voluntary Severance Package (VSP), or are employed elsewhere, may not apply.
  • The nature of the work is deadline-driven, requiring flexibility and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Only applications submitted within the official opening and closing dates will be considered.
