Purpose of the Programme
The Tshwane Metro Police Department is committed to creating safer communities by building a competent and dedicated police force. The TMPD Trainee Programme is designed to develop skilled law enforcement officers who are physically and mentally fit, emotionally stable, and capable of maintaining order and enforcing laws within the metropolitan area. Trainees will undergo comprehensive training at the Police Academy, focusing on legislation, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, by-law enforcement, and community engagement.

Selection Criteria
To be eligible for the Metro Police Trainee Programme, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- ✅ Hold a Grade 12 (Matric) qualification – documentary proof is required
- ✅ Possess a valid driver’s license for a manual transmission vehicle
- ✅ Pass a practical departmental driving test
- ✅ Have no criminal record or pending criminal charges (you must be willing to submit fingerprints at your own cost)
- ✅ Not be listed on any register for sexual or child offenders
- ✅ Must not have been dismissed from a government department due to misconduct
- ✅ Be a South African citizen and a resident of the City of Tshwane (Proof of residence and affidavit are required if the applicant’s surname differs from the homeowner)
- ✅ Be between 18 and 35 years of age
- ✅ Be medically fit as per occupational health procedures – a valid medical certificate confirming ability to perform strenuous exercise is required
- ✅ Successfully complete a physical fitness evaluation and assessment
- ✅ Be willing to undergo and pass a psychometric assessment
- ✅ Be proficient in English and able to pass a language proficiency test
- ✅ Must not have been declared incompetent to possess a firearm
